King’s neurosurgeon discusses breakthrough on BBC Breakfast

King’s College Hospital has spotlighted a major breakthrough in brain tumour diagnostics, thanks to funding from the charity Charlotte’s BAG. Featured on BBC Breakfast, Consultant Neurosurgeon Mr Ranj Bhangoo discussed how the hospital can now perform molecular testing on brain tumours within 24 hours—a leap forward in personalised treatment.

The initiative was made possible by over £300,000 raised by Charlotte’s BAG, a charity founded in memory of Charlotte Eades, who passed away from glioblastoma at age 19. The funds have supported the creation of “Charlotte’s Lab,” equipped for whole genome sequencing and staffed by neuropathology experts.

Mr Bhangoo emphasised that this rapid genetic analysis allows clinicians to better understand tumour behaviour and tailor treatment accordingly, offering patients more informed choices and potentially improved outcomes
